The Makkan Seerah · lesson 4
Migration in the Makkan period shows trust joined to responsible action. A Qur’anic promise honours those who migrate after being wronged, while an authenticated report places a Muslim community with Ja‘far under al-Najashi in Abyssinia. The rejection associated in later seerah with Ta’if is anchored here to Sahih al-Bukhari’s wording about al-Aqabah and the Messenger’s merciful hope. The road to Hijrah then brings together a hostile plot, Divine support in the cave and careful travel planning.

And those who emigrated for [the cause of] Allāh after they had been wronged – We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know.
And those who became fugitives for the cause of Allah after they had been oppressed, We verily shall give them goodly lodging in the world, and surely the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if they but knew;
To those who leave their homes in the cause of Allah, after suffering oppression,- We will assuredly give a goodly home in this world; but truly the reward of the Hereafter will be greater. If they only realised (this)!

Qur’an 16:41 promises a good worldly settlement and greater Hereafter reward for those who migrated for اللّٰه (ALLAH) after being wronged. Teach the general principle first without automatically labelling the verse as a complete Abyssinia chronology. Read every displayed Qur’an and hadith panel before reducing the account to a timeline sentence.
Read the complete evidence panel before reducing it to a step. The Arabic, named translation, source locator and explanation have different roles; preserving those roles lets a learner worship with confidence without turning a short guide into an unsupported ruling.
Keep three lines in your notes: what the source explicitly says, what this lesson explains, and what remains for qualified review. That structure makes later correction clear rather than embarrassing.
Specific occasion, destination and historical application require qualified tafsir and seerah review. This is a source-layered introduction to the Makkan Seerah, not an infallible reconstruction or a substitute for qualified seerah scholarship. Qur’anic wording, authenticated reports and later biographical synthesis have different evidence levels. Do not add an exact birth date, age, sequence, route, genealogy, dialogue, appearance, motive, casualty, miracle detail or emotional state unless the displayed source establishes it. Named translations are human renderings, not the Arabic Qur’an. Arabic, translation, tafsir, hadith wording, chronology, geography and disputed historical details remain open for qualified review before indexing.

Calm completeness is the goal. Repeating an action without evidence, rushing past a required distinction, or ignoring real harm can all move the learner away from careful worship. Work through the evidence once slowly, check once, and improve through reviewed teaching.
An adult guiding a child should praise careful attention and an honest “I need to ask” answer. The aim is worship with understanding, not performance for the teacher.

Each column keeps one Arabic word, its reading aid and its contextual gloss together. Select a word to hear it. Saheeh International is the primary reading. The two named comparisons make translation choices visible; none is presented as the Arabic Qur’an itself. If you do not aid him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] – Allāh has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he [i.e., Muḥammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) (ﷺ)] said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allāh is with us." And Allāh sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with soldiers [i.e., angels] you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allāh – that is the highest. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise. If ye help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two; when they two were in the cave, when he said unto his comrade: Grieve not. Lo! Allah is with us. Then Allah caused His peace of reassurance to descend upon him and supported him with hosts ye cannot see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the nethermost, while Allah's Word it was that became the uppermost. Allah is Mighty, Wise. If ye help not (your leader), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion; they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion, "Have no fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise. The road to Hijrah then brings together a hostile plot, Divine support in the cave and careful travel planning. Your role is to slow the learning down, keep the exact evidence visible and make it safe for the learner to say, “I am not sure yet.” Open the named ayah or hadith before explaining it. Tell the learner whether they are seeing Arabic revelation, a reading aid, a named translation, a hadith translation or editorial teaching. Ask one precise question and wait. If the learner struggles, point to the relevant line, narrow the choice or replay the audio before supplying the answer. Praise honest checking and careful effort. Correct the idea or sound without labelling the learner, and never turn a mistake into embarrassment. Opening words: “We are going to learn one idea carefully and see exactly where it comes from. We can pause, replay and check the source whenever we need to.” Teach one short source phrase and one meaning. Use text cards, colour bands, paths or simple geometric symbols—never a picture of اللّٰه (ALLAH) and never an image that implies His form. Let the child point, match, listen and repeat once or twice. Use two or three evidence cards and ask the learner to match each idea to its locator. Invite a short explanation in their own words, then reopen the source to correct it together. Compare the named English translations where provided. Ask what wording differs, what remains constant, and why a translation must not be called the Arabic Qur’an itself. Require a precise claim, an exact source locator and a stated boundary. Invite the learner to distinguish established meaning from inference and to mark any unresolved question for qualified review. Gentle correction: “Let us listen once more and notice where the sound begins,” protects both accuracy and confidence. Complete one task independently before adding another.
