A clear first meaning

Al-Qadir is revealed in Qur’an 6:65. The Fully Able is the current learner-facing rendering under review. “Able” communicates real meaning, but it can sound weak in everyday English, as though it only means having an opportunity. The Qur’anic context speaks of complete capability under the sole authority of اللّٰه (ALLAH).

This page makes an important spelling and corpus distinction. Al-Qadir uses the Arabic active-participle form conventionally transliterated qādir. It is not the same selected lemma as qadīr, which English sites often transliterate almost identically and render “All-Powerful.” Both belong to the same root family, but a responsible occurrence count cannot merge them.

What the corrected controlled corpus shows

The corrected Quranic Arabic Corpus search finds fourteen lexical candidates for the lemma qādir. They occur at 6:37, 6:65, 10:24, 17:99, 23:18, 23:95, 36:81, 46:33, 68:25, 70:40, 75:4, 75:40, 77:23 and 86:8.

Fourteen is not a final Divine-title total. The list includes indefinite singular descriptions, first-person plural Divine statements and created-person plural uses. In Qur’an 10:24, people think they have power over their produce. In 68:25, created people set out believing themselves capable. Those are not Names of اللّٰه (ALLAH).

Qur’an 6:65 is the exact definite Divine-title candidate: the verse says, in meaning, that He is Al-Qadir. Several other candidates plainly describe Divine ability, such as 6:37, 17:99, 36:81, 46:33, 75:40 and 86:8, but their indefinite or sentence-level constructions must not be quietly relabelled as the exact definite title.

The previous automated draft selected the different lemma qadīr and returned forty-five candidates. That selection has been rejected for this page. No “45 occurrences” claim belongs to Al-Qadir. Recording the correction is part of the evidence, not an embarrassment to hide.

Qur’an 6:65 is the anchor passage, displayed above from Tawheed Club’s controlled Qur’anic record. The verse commands the Messenger to say that He is Al-Qadir over forms of punishment from above, beneath, division into factions and people tasting one another’s violence. It then calls attention to the varied presentation of the signs so that people may understand.

This is a serious context. The Name should not be reduced to a motivational slogan such as “anything you imagine will happen.” The verse warns people who are already under Divine authority. Human conflict, division and apparent control do not place anyone outside that authority.

The reference also teaches why context is part of meaning. Al-Qadir is not introduced by an abstract philosophical definition. The verse addresses accountability, judgement and the repeated clarification of signs. A complete lesson therefore joins hope in Divine ability with humility before warning.

Qur’an 6:102 does not contain the selected qādir lemma, so it is not included in the fourteen. It supplies the surrounding foundation: this is اللّٰه (ALLAH), your Lord; there is no deity worthy of worship except Him; He is the Creator of all things; therefore worship Him; and He is Disposer of all things.

This foundation prevents capability from becoming an impersonal “universal power.” Al-Qadir is not energy to be channelled or a law of attraction. The Name belongs to the personal Lord who created all things and alone deserves worship.

The practical order of the verse matters: knowledge leads to worship. A learner who can repeat “Al-Qadir” but calls upon a created object as though it independently controls outcomes has not applied the message of the passage.

Al-Qadir is not Qadir

English transliteration can hide Arabic differences. Depending on the publisher, both qādir and qadīr may appear as “Qadir,” with or without long-vowel marks. For navigation, Tawheed Club uses Al-Qadir for the definite qādir form, while the separate morphology record for qadīr must not be imported into this page’s count.

The same root can produce a verb, an action noun and more than one descriptive form. Shared root meaning makes comparison useful, but it does not make every form the same title. A verb saying that اللّٰه (ALLAH) is able to do something may convey Divine ability without being a lexical occurrence of Al-Qadir.

For learners, a simple parallel helps: “teach,” “teacher” and “teaching” are related English words, but they are not interchangeable. The Arabic relationship is not identical to that English example; the example only demonstrates why related words require separate labels.

Qur’an 54:55 contains Al-Muqtadir, not Al-Qadir. It is shown because the two Names share the q-d-r root and are easily confused in translation. The verse describes a seat of truth near a Sovereign perfect in ability. Al-Muqtadir has its own four-candidate ledger and its own page.

Both Names affirm perfect Divine capability. The forms are not identical, and this page will not invent a technical distinction merely to fill a comparison table. A qualified Arabic reviewer should assess whether a learner-facing contrast such as “Fully Able” and “Perfect in Ability” accurately communicates the morphology without overstating it.

Qur’an 54:55 also balances the warning in 6:65. Divine ability is displayed in judgement, but the ending prepared for the people of taqwa is also entirely under His authority. Fear and hope belong together.

Created ability requires a capable body, mind, tool, permission, time and favourable conditions. Qur’an 42:11 declares that nothing is like اللّٰه (ALLAH). We therefore do not imagine Al-Qadir as a stronger human planner or a machine with limitless capacity.

We affirm ability as revelation affirms it and stop where revelation stops. The verse’s combination of transcendence with the Names All-Hearing and All-Seeing shows that refusing likeness does not mean emptying the Names of meaning. It means understanding without manufacturing a resemblance.

Created uses teach dependence

The qādir candidate list deliberately retains created forms. Qur’an 10:24 describes people who think they have power over the growth of the earth, then the scene changes by Divine command. Qur’an 68:25 describes people setting out with confidence in their own capability. These uses reveal the limit of created control.

A farmer may cultivate, a doctor may treat and an engineer may design. Islam does not deny real created actions. It denies independence from the Creator. Every person acts with received capacities inside conditions they did not create.

This is why a plural created form cannot be counted as Al-Qadir. The shared lemma gives a linguistic relationship, but the referent changes the theological classification. A transparent resource shows the learner this difference instead of reporting a larger, misleading number.

What this changes in ordinary life

When a task appears impossible, belief in Al-Qadir keeps the servant from treating current circumstances as the boundary of Divine ability. The servant may ask boldly while remaining submissive about the answer.

When a plan succeeds, the Name breaks arrogance. Skill and preparation matter, yet neither created the mind, time or world in which success occurred. Say thanks, acknowledge helpers and avoid claiming independent mastery.

When a plan fails, do not conclude that اللّٰه (ALLAH) was unable. The failure may expose our limitation, protect us from something unseen, discipline our method or remain a wisdom we do not know. We must not invent a specific hidden reason and present it as revelation.

When facing wrongdoing, remember Qur’an 6:65’s warning without weaponising it against a disliked group. The verse first teaches universal accountability. A believer should correct personal conduct, seek unity on truth and avoid adding to division through rumours or injustice.

Using practical means is compatible with Tawheed. Locking a door, consulting a specialist and revising for an exam acknowledge the patterns اللّٰه (ALLAH) placed in creation. The heart does not worship the lock, specialist or revision plan.

Learn it at your level

First encounter

Al-Qadir means that اللّٰه (ALLAH) is fully able. His ability does not depend on tools, helpers or permission.

Ages 5–7 with an adult

Say: “We can only do what اللّٰه (ALLAH) enables us to do. He never needs help to be able.” Use no image for Him.

Ages 8–11

Read Qur’an 6:102 and explain why ability belongs to the Creator, not to an impersonal force.

Ages 12–15

Sort qādir examples into Divine singular, Divine plural expression and created plural. Explain why the referent matters.

Ages 16+ and adults

Compare qādir, qadīr and muqtadir at the lemma level. Do not propose a theological distinction until grammar and tafsir have been reviewed.

Adult and teacher guide

Start by writing the corrected number fourteen and then immediately ask, “Fourteen of what?” The answer is lexical candidates, not fourteen exact-title occurrences. This teaches both the Name and evidence literacy.

Present three labelled cards: “same root,” “same lemma” and “same referent.” A verse can share the root without the lemma; it can share the lemma while referring to created people; and it can refer to اللّٰه (ALLAH) without using the exact definite title. Have the learner classify sample references from the ledger.

For younger children, use a safe planning example. A child may intend to build a tower but needs blocks, time and hands that work. Emphasise that the example shows the child’s dependence, not what اللّٰه (ALLAH) is like.

For retrieval, ask the next day for the anchor reference 6:65 and the corrected candidate total. One week later, ask why 10:24 and 68:25 cannot be counted as Divine Names. Mastery requires correct reference, accurate category language and an application that avoids fatalism.

Check your understanding

  1. Which verse contains the exact definite Divine-title candidate Al-Qadir?
  2. What is the corrected qādir lemma-candidate total?
  3. Why was the previous total of forty-five rejected?
  4. Name two candidate references that describe created people.
  5. Why can an indefinite Divine description be true without being the exact definite title?
  6. How does Al-Qadir differ from the separate Al-Muqtadir record?
  7. What does Qur’an 6:102 add to the study?
  8. Why does using practical means not contradict Tawheed?

Frequently asked questions

Are Al-Qadir and Qadir the same in every transliteration?

No. English spelling often hides the distinction between qādir and qadīr. This page follows the qādir lemma and rejects the forty-five-candidate qadīr dataset for this title.

Does “fully able” mean every wish will happen?

No. Divine ability does not place creation in command of Divine will. A believer asks, acts lawfully and submits to wisdom.

Why keep created uses in the lexical ledger?

They prove what the corpus search returned and help reviewers classify referents. They are retained as candidates but excluded from any final Divine-title count.

Is Al-Muqtadir just another spelling?

No. It is a different form from the same root and has a separate Qur’anic occurrence record. Their relationship requires careful Arabic explanation.

Can we picture limitless power?

No created picture represents اللّٰه (ALLAH). Qur’an 42:11 states that nothing is like Him.

Shareable summary: Al-Qadir is the exact definite Divine title in Qur’an 6:65. The corrected qādir search returns fourteen lexical candidates, including created plural and indefinite forms, so fourteen is not a final title count. Al-Qadir affirms complete Divine ability without dependence, likeness or a promise to fulfil every human wish.

Saheeh International

The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb – [those] from which men and livestock eat – until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought.

M. Pickthall

The similitude of the life of the world is only as water which We send down from the sky, then the earth's growth of that which men and cattle eat mingleth with it till, when the earth hath taken on her ornaments and is embellished, and her people deem that they are masters of her, Our commandment cometh by night or by day and We make it as reaped corn as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do we expound the revelations for people who reflect.

A. Yusuf Ali

The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth- which provides food for men and animals: (It grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: There reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.
