Divine Names study · exact-title evidence hold
No harm is independent of the Creator
Ad-Darr is often translated as The One who allows harm or, more abruptly, The Harmer. The second rendering can mislead if isolated from justice, wisdom and mercy. The controlled Qur’an review finds zero exact Ad-Darr title occurrences and retains no independent authentic exact-title report. This page is therefore an evidence hold, not a claim that the familiar title is directly present.
The Qur’an clearly teaches that no created object, person or force can cause harm independently of اللّٰه (ALLAH). It also states that if He touches a person with adversity, none can remove it except Him. These are strong Tawheed teachings, but related actions and clauses must not be relabelled as an exact noun-title.
Affirming decree does not mean that اللّٰه (ALLAH) commands sin or wrongs creation. Human beings choose wrongdoing and are accountable. A victim must never be blamed, returned to danger or told that seeking protection contradicts trust.
The simple first meaning
For a first-time learner: harm cannot reach anyone outside the knowledge, permission and decree of اللّٰه (ALLAH). Created causes remain real, and people who cause wrongful harm remain responsible.
Pronunciation guide: aḍ-Ḍārr. The initial article assimilates to the following emphatic consonant, which is doubled, and the vowel is long. Listen to a qualified Arabic teacher. Latin “Ad-Darr” is a navigation aid, not a full pronunciation record.
“The Harmer” should never be left unexplained. A safer teaching sentence is: “The One under whose decree harm can occur, and outside whose permission no created cause can operate.” Even this remains an explanation of the catalogue theme, not a Qur’anic quotation.

Say: Serve ye in place of Allah that which possesseth for you neither hurt nor use? Allah it is Who is the Hearer, the Knower.
Say: "Will ye worship, besides Allah, something which hath no power either to harm or benefit you? But Allah,- He it is that heareth and knoweth all things."

Qur’an 5:76 asks why people worship besides اللّٰه (ALLAH) what possesses neither harm nor benefit for them. It closes with Divine hearing and knowledge. The verse removes independent spiritual power from created objects of worship.
This does not deny ordinary causation. Fire burns and medicine can help by the created laws and permission of اللّٰه (ALLAH). The verse rejects worship and independent unseen control, not responsible use of the world.
Hearing and knowledge also matter. The Lord to whom worship belongs hears the request and knows the condition. A created symbol cannot become an intermediary with independent access.

Say, "I hold not for myself [the power of] benefit or harm, except what Allāh has willed. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired much wealth, and no harm would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bringer of good tidings to a people who believe."
Say: For myself I have no power to benefit, nor power to hurt, save that which Allah willeth. Had I knowledge of the Unseen, I should have abundance of wealth, and adversity would not touch me. I am but a warner, and a bearer of good tidings unto folk who believe.
Say: "I have no power over any good or harm to myself except as Allah willeth. If I had knowledge of the unseen, I should have multiplied all good, and no evil should have touched me: I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings to those who have faith."

Qur’an 7:188 commands the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) to state that he controls neither benefit nor harm for himself except what اللّٰه (ALLAH) wills. He does not independently know the unseen.
This is a decisive Tawheed boundary expressed by the messenger himself. Love and obedience do not become worship. Asking اللّٰه (ALLAH) to bless the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) is not a reason to attribute independent unseen power to him.
The verse also teaches honest leadership. A true messenger does not market guaranteed outcomes or secret knowledge. Religious teachers today must be even more careful not to promise protection, healing or wealth that revelation does not promise.

And if Allāh should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
If Allah afflicteth thee with some hurt, there is none who can remove it save Him; and if He desireth good for thee, there is none who can repel His bounty. He striketh with it whom He will of his bondmen. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
If Allah do touch thee with hurt, there is none can remove it but He: if He do design some benefit for thee, there is none can keep back His favour: He causeth it to reach whomsoever of His servants He pleaseth. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Qur’an 10:107 states that if اللّٰه (ALLAH) touches a person with adversity, none can remove it except Him; and if He intends good, none can repel His bounty. This is direct Divine action and decree evidence for both harm and benefit themes. It contains neither exact catalogue title.
The verse directs supplication to Him alone while leaving room for created means. A doctor cannot heal independently, but visiting the doctor is not disbelief. A safeguarding officer cannot guarantee safety, but making a report is a lawful cause.
“Touches” and “intends” must be read through named translation and tafsir, not used to form an image of اللّٰه (ALLAH). We affirm the revealed wording without resemblance to creation.
Two related participles that are not the Name
The signed root review identifies two active-participle-like darr tokens at Qur’an 2:102 and 58:10. In both cases, the context concerns created means that cannot harm except by permission or cannot harm believers except by the permission of اللّٰه (ALLAH). They are not Divine titles.
At 2:102, the passage concerns sorcery and states that people do not harm anyone through it except by permission. This does not make sorcery harmless or lawful. It denies independent power while warning against the sinful act.
At 58:10, secret conversation inspired toward grief cannot harm believers except by permission, and believers are told to rely upon اللّٰه (ALLAH). Emotional and social harm still requires appropriate action. Tawakkul does not mean remaining in bullying or coercion.
What the occurrence review establishes
The d-r-r root map contains seventy-four morphology tokens across harm, adversity, necessity, distress and related forms. Zero is the exact Ad-Darr title count. The two active-participle-like tokens are created/non-title contexts, not Divine predicates. Basmalah impact is zero.
A search that reports “Ad-Darr occurs seventy-four times” has confused a root family with a title. A search that reports “twice” from the participles has confused created causes with the Creator. The reliable public statement is the zero exact-title result together with clear Divine decree clauses at verses such as 10:107.
The enumerated report attached to Jami at-Tirmidhi 3507 is weak and not independent proof. No authentic exact-title report has been retained. This page remains noindex until qualified Arabic, hadith and theology review confirms the presentation.
Harm, trial and wrongdoing
A trial may include pain without being a punishment. A punishment may be delayed. A wrongdoing involves a morally accountable created choice. These categories overlap in lived experience but cannot be declared from appearance alone.
Saying that harm occurs by Divine permission does not praise the person who caused it. Permission in the creational sense is not the same as a command or moral approval. The Qur’an forbids injustice and holds people accountable.
When somebody suffers, begin with care: stop immediate danger, obtain treatment, document facts and listen. Do not begin by guessing the unseen reason.
Ad-Darr and nearby Names
Ad-Darr and An-Nafi‘: harm and benefit are a natural teaching pair because 5:76, 7:188 and 10:107 discuss them together. Neither exact title is located in the Qur’an.
Ad-Darr and Al-Hakim: Divine decree is wise, never arbitrary. We may affirm wisdom without knowing the specific reason.
Ad-Darr and Al-Adl: اللّٰه (ALLAH) wrongs nobody. Harm in creation does not make injustice a Divine attribute.
Ad-Darr and Ash-Shafi: illness and healing occur under His decree. Use treatment without attributing independent power to it.
Ad-Darr and Al-Hafiz: protection and permitted adversity both operate within complete knowledge. Neither meaning erases the other.
Living with the teaching safely
Remove independent power from created things. A cause can be dangerous without becoming a deity.
Take precautions. Wear safety equipment, follow medical guidance and secure accounts. Precaution is stewardship.
Repent from causing harm. Stop, acknowledge, repair and accept lawful consequences. Saying “it was decreed” is not an apology.
Support people in pain. Offer transport, food, listening and professional referrals before abstract explanations.
Reject superstition. Do not blame an amulet, number, star or person’s “energy” as an independent source.
Ask اللّٰه (ALLAH) directly. Seek removal of adversity while using the lawful means He created.
Errors this page rejects
Ad-Darr must never be used to portray اللّٰه (ALLAH) as cruel, impulsive or unjust. It does not make evil good, excuse an abuser or remove a victim’s rights.
No fixed repetition count is established to harm an enemy, return pain to another person or discover who caused a problem. Such claims can fuel paranoia and abuse.
Do not advise someone to stop medication, therapy, legal action or safeguarding because “only اللّٰه (ALLAH) controls harm.” He controls the created means too, and we are responsible for using them lawfully.
Risk without obsession
Recognising possible harm should produce proportionate care, not constant scanning for hidden enemies. Check reliable information, reduce a known risk and then continue living. Repeated reassurance-seeking can itself become distressing. If fear disrupts daily life, seek appropriate mental-health support.
Religious content should not intensify paranoia by claiming that every setback proves sorcery, envy or a curse. Those subjects have revealed boundaries, but a website cannot diagnose unseen causes. Begin with observable facts and ordinary remedies.
Parents should model calm safety: teach a child how to cross a road, report bullying and protect private information without telling them the world is full of invisible threats. Tawheed gives a secure direction for dependence while preserving practical responsibility.
Repairing harm you caused
If you caused harm, do not hide behind intention. Listen to impact, stop the behaviour, return rights and accept appropriate boundaries. Seek advice before contacting someone who may be placed at further risk.
Digital harm also counts. Remove false claims, correct public misinformation with similar visibility and secure exposed data. A deleted post may not erase copies, so document the correction and help affected people reduce further damage.
A worked study method
- Read the pair: locate harm and benefit together in 5:76 and 7:188.
- Identify authority: explain what the messenger denies controlling in 7:188.
- Read the Divine clause: find adversity, removal, good and bounty in 10:107.
- Check false counts: separate the seventy-four-token root and two created participles from the zero title result.
- Apply safely: name one risk that needs a practical precaution.

Adult and teacher guide
Begin with 7:188 because it establishes the boundary through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him). Ask what he denies and what the exception means. Do not invite speculative examples of unseen harm.
Use a cause-chain diagram made only of words: hazard, human choice, created effect, Divine permission, accountability and response. Emphasise that the diagram does not explain the hidden wisdom of a real tragedy.
When learners disclose harm, stop the theological exercise and follow safeguarding policy. Do not investigate beyond your role or ask the group to pray instead of reporting.
Challenge online claims that identify curses or guarantee reversal. Red flags include payment, secrecy, isolation from family, requests for intimate material and instructions to stop treatment.
Assess through four boundaries: exact title zero, root seventy-four, two created participles and the central Divine action at 10:107. The learner should also name one lawful safety step.
