Acts of worship: source and intention practice
Use this guide to examine your own learning carefully. It helps you name an act, locate its source, distinguish worship from ordinary created means and choose a safe next step. It does not read hearts, declare takfir or issue a personal ruling.

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.
Compare · M. Pickthall
And verily We have raised in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Serve Allah and shun false gods. Then some of them (there were) whom Allah guided, and some of them (there were) upon whom error had just hold. Do but travel in the land and see the nature of the consequence for the deniers!
Compare · A. Yusuf Ali
For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth).

O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of Allāh or [the sanctity of] the sacred month or [neglect the marking of] the sacrificial animals and garlanding [them] or [violate the safety of] those coming to the Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and [His] approval. But when you come out of iḥrām, then [you may] hunt. And do not let the hatred of a people for having obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām lead you to transgress. O ye who believe! Profane not Allah's monuments nor the Sacred Month nor the offerings nor the garlands, nor those repairing to the Sacred House, seeking the grace and pleasure of their Lord. But when ye have left the sacred territory, then go hunting (if ye will). And let not your hatred of a folk who (once) stopped your going to the inviolable place of worship seduce you to transgress; but help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression, but keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is severe in punishment.
Compare · A. Yusuf Ali
O ye who believe! Violate not the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, nor of the sacred month, nor of the animals brought for sacrifice, nor the garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people resorting to the sacred house, seeking of the bounty and good pleasure of their Lord. But when ye are clear of the sacred precincts and of pilgrim garb, ye may hunt and let not the hatred of some people in (once) shutting you out of the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgression (and hostility on your part). Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment.

The six-part practice record
Step
Write or select
Boundary
1. Act
Describe exactly what is said or done.
A label is not enough.
2. Source
Record the controlled verse or verified report.
Separate quotation from explanation.
3. Recipient
Who is addressed or intended?
Do not guess another heart.
4. Ability
Ordinary created ability, religious invocation or unclear?
“Help” is not an automatic verdict.
5. Intention
Privately review why you are acting.
Good intention does not repair an unsound act.
6. Next step
Continue, correct, seek evidence or refer.
Complex cases need qualified review.
Practice cases
Asking a classmate to explain a worked example.
Making private du’a for guidance.
Taking medicine while asking the Creator for recovery.
Offering charity but wanting public praise.
Hearing a disputed phrase without its context.
Being asked to cooperate in something harmful.
For each case, complete all six steps. “Unclear—ask for the exact words and context” is a valid, often responsible result.
Model answer for the first case: the act is asking for an explanation; the source boundary is ordinary cooperation rather than a claim that the example itself is a verse; the recipient is a present classmate; explaining is within ordinary ability; the learner reviews whether they are seeking honest understanding; the next step is to accept lawful help and thank the person. The model demonstrates method without turning the scenario into a universal ruling.
Model answer for private du’a: the act is religious invocation; Qur’an 2:186 is a direct evidence panel taught in Lesson 034; the recipient is the Creator; the request is not assigned to a created person’s independent unseen power; the learner checks sincerity and truthfulness; the next step is to continue du’a while taking any lawful responsible means.
Assignment, progress and safeguarding
Anyone may use the guide. Signed-in learners can assign it to themselves; adults can assign it to linked learners with an optional deadline. Starting it independently places it in started learning without falsely marking it assigned. Scroll progress saves, a resume button returns to the saved section, and reaching the actual end records 100% completion.
Do not enter private confessions, identifying safeguarding details or medical information into a public field. If a case involves danger, abuse or acute distress, contact a safe adult or the appropriate emergency, safeguarding or clinical service.
Reflection and educator guide
Choose one personal act to clarify, one source to revisit and one safe correction. Educators should assess the learner’s reasoning, not reward fast accusations. For younger learners, read the case aloud and offer three choices: worship, ordinary help, or more information needed. Never ask a child to investigate relatives.
Revisit the completed guide after twenty-four hours without looking at the model, then again after seven days with one new safe scenario. If your classification changes, record why. Learning to correct a conclusion when better evidence appears is a strength, not a failure.

Help a learner master Acts of Worship Source-and-Intention Practice Guide
Use a six-part assignable guide to name an act, locate its source, identify the recipient and ability, review your own intention and choose a safe next step. Your role is to slow the learning down, keep the exact evidence visible and make it safe for the learner to say, “I am not sure yet.”
Begin with the source
Open the named ayah or hadith before explaining it. Tell the learner whether they are seeing Arabic revelation, a reading aid, a named translation, a hadith translation or editorial teaching.
Invite an answer before helping
Ask one precise question and wait. If the learner struggles, point to the relevant line, narrow the choice or replay the audio before supplying the answer.
Correct with dignity
Praise honest checking and careful effort. Correct the idea or sound without labelling the learner, and never turn a mistake into embarrassment.
01Prepare a focused session
Read Acts of Worship Source-and-Intention Practice Guide yourself and open every cited source before inviting the learner.
Choose one realistic aim from the mastery statement. Do not try to teach the whole page in one sitting.
Test any Arabic audio. If a sound is outside your confidence, plan to listen together and seek correction from a capable teacher.
Remove distractions and decide when to stop: about 8–10 minutes for a younger child, 15–20 minutes for ages 8–11, or 20–30 minutes for an older learner.
Keep paper optional. If Qur’anic text is printed, follow the respect and waste guidance shown above the ayah panel.
Opening words: “We are going to learn one idea carefully and see exactly where it comes from. We can pause, replay and check the source whenever we need to.”
02Use a source-led teaching conversation
Connect: Ask what the learner already thinks the title means. Record the answer without immediately judging it.
Read or listen: Open the first evidence panel or cited report. Hear the complete Arabic before isolating one word or phrase.
Notice: Ask the learner to identify the exact words that support the first teaching point. A contextual word gloss is a clue; the complete named translation supplies the sentence meaning.
Explain: Read the teaching paragraph. Ask, “Which part came directly from the source, and which part is the writer helping us understand?”
Apply: Choose one practice task. Keep everyday examples within the boundary of the source; do not invent promises, hidden causes or rulings.
Retrieve: Close the explanation and ask the learner to state the idea, evidence locator and one careful application in their own words.
03Questions for this exact resource
“What does Name before classifying mean here, and which words or source locator support your answer (Practice guide · Step 1)?”
“What does Source and recipient mean here, and which words or source locator support your answer (Practice guide · Steps 2-4)?”
“What does Private intention and safe referral mean here, and which words or source locator support your answer (Practice guide · Steps 5-6)?”
“Which sentence is revelation or hadith, and which sentence is explanation?”
“What would be an overstatement that the cited source does not allow us to make?”
04Adapt the same truth for different ages
Ages 5–7
Teach one short source phrase and one meaning. Use text cards, colour bands, paths or simple geometric symbols—never a picture of اللّٰه(ALLAH) and never an image that implies His form. Let the child point, match, listen and repeat once or twice.
Ages 8–11
Use two or three evidence cards and ask the learner to match each idea to its locator. Invite a short explanation in their own words, then reopen the source to correct it together.
Ages 12–15
Compare the named English translations where provided. Ask what wording differs, what remains constant, and why a translation must not be called the Arabic Qur’an itself.
Ages 16+ and adults
Require a precise claim, an exact source locator and a stated boundary. Invite the learner to distinguish established meaning from inference and to mark any unresolved question for qualified review.
05Support Arabic without creating false confidence
Listen to the whole ayah or supplication first.
Follow the Arabic from right to left and use the word-level controls only after hearing the complete wording.
Treat transliteration as temporary scaffolding. It cannot reproduce every Arabic sound.
Let the learner echo a short unit, then return it to the full phrase so meaning and pronunciation remain connected.
If neither of you can hear or form a sound confidently, record it for a capable Qur’an or Arabic teacher. Do not manufacture an English substitute and call it exact.
Gentle correction: “Let us listen once more and notice where the sound begins,” protects both accuracy and confidence.
06Choose one useful follow-up
Complete all six steps for each safe case.
Record “more information needed” when appropriate.
Revisit after 24 hours and seven days.
Complete one task independently before adding another. Adult support should reveal the route, not hide whether the learner can use it.
07Revisit for durable mastery
After 24 hours · five minutes
Ask for the central idea without showing the answer.
Ask the learner to find its source locator.
Replay one Arabic phrase and reconnect it to the complete meaning.
Correct by reopening the source, then end with one successful retrieval.
After seven days · eight minutes
Ask for the idea, source and boundary in the learner’s own words.
Retry the most difficult mastery question.
Apply the idea to one new but appropriate situation.
Record what is secure and what needs another supported attempt.
