Sahih Muslim 8a records Jibril asking Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) about Islam, faith and excellence. The answer about faith names six objects of belief. Qur’an 4:136 gathers belief in اللّٰه(ALLAH), His messenger, revelation, angels, books, messengers and the Last Day. Divine decree is stated directly elsewhere in the Qur’an. “Six articles of faith” is therefore a useful English teaching label for revealed content, not a claim that the Qur’an presents a numbered heading with that exact English title.
The same hadith gives a different answer when asked about Islam: testimony, prayer, zakah, fasting and pilgrimage. Those practices are commonly taught as the Five Pillars. Keeping the two answers distinct helps a beginner see that belief and worship belong together without collapsing two teaching maps into one. Neither map is a scorecard for strangers to judge another person’s hidden sincerity.

Surah al-Ikhlas teaches unique oneness, complete dependence upon Him, the denial of offspring and birth, and the absence of any equivalent. Qur’an 42:11 supplies a firm reading boundary: nothing is like Him, while the verse also affirms that He hears and sees. Belief therefore does not begin by inventing an image or imagining Divine attributes as larger versions of created features. It begins by receiving what revelation says and refusing both denial and comparison.
This first article also directs worship. The One upon whom all creation depends is not one deity alongside competitors. Prayer, ultimate reliance, hope and worship belong to Him alone. The remaining five articles are understood under this foundation: angels are His servants, books are His revelation, messengers are sent by Him, the Last Day is His promised judgement and decree never escapes His knowledge and rule.

And We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him)], the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allāh has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allāh willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allāh is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced-out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ.

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

Angels, books and messengers are connected but not interchangeable. Angels are created servants and messengers who carry out assigned duties; they are not lesser gods or human spirits. Revealed books are guidance sent by اللّٰه(ALLAH); a translation or later manuscript history must not be confused with the original revelation itself. Human messengers convey the message and model obedience, but they are honoured servants and are never worshipped.
Qur’an 2:285 teaches believers not to practise selective disbelief among messengers. Qur’an 16:36 shows the shared core of their call: worship اللّٰه(ALLAH) and avoid false worship. Qur’an 5:48 presents the Qur’an as revealed in truth, confirming prior revelation and standing as authority over it. The course therefore respects what اللّٰه(ALLAH) originally revealed without using surviving Biblical text to overrule the Qur’an or fill gaps in it.

Belief in the Last Day includes real resurrection, judgement and return. Qur’an 22:7 says that the Hour is coming and that those in the graves will be raised. Qur’an 3:185 connects death with full recompense on the Day of Resurrection. Qur’an 99:7–8 teaches that even the smallest good or evil will be seen. These passages do not reduce the Last Day to a symbol for social change, nor do they authorise dates, sensational diagrams or confident claims about a named person’s destination.
Accountability should produce honesty, repair, hope and care for others. It should not be used to frighten a young child with invented pictures or to silence normal grief. A teacher can say clearly that life matters, actions matter, repentance matters and the final judgement belongs to اللّٰه(ALLAH). Exact timings and many unseen details remain outside human knowledge unless revelation states them.

Qur’an 54:49 establishes that everything is created according to decree or measure. Qur’an 57:22 states that calamities on earth and within people are recorded before they are brought into being. Qur’an 76:3 still addresses a morally meaningful response to guidance. The revealed picture therefore refuses two opposite errors: creation is not independent of اللّٰه(ALLAH), and human beings are not excused from every command, choice, repair or consequence.
Sahih Muslim 2664 gives a practical discipline: pursue what benefits, seek help from اللّٰه(ALLAH) and do not surrender to helplessness. Belief in decree is not a reason to neglect medicine, safeguarding, study, work or repentance. It does not permit victim-blaming or a claim that every painful event reveals a person’s spiritual rank. The mechanics of how decree and choice relate are not invented by this course.
Learning move: Sort one scenario into decree, human responsibility and unknown mechanism. Require a useful next action so the exercise cannot end in passive fatalism.

Begin with the source
Open the named ayah or hadith before explaining it. Tell the learner whether they are seeing Arabic revelation, a reading aid, a named translation, a hadith translation or editorial teaching.
Invite an answer before helping
Ask one precise question and wait. If the learner struggles, point to the relevant line, narrow the choice or replay the audio before supplying the answer.
Correct with dignity
Praise honest checking and careful effort. Correct the idea or sound without labelling the learner, and never turn a mistake into embarrassment.
01Prepare a focused session
Read The Six Articles of Faith yourself and open every cited source before inviting the learner.
Choose one realistic aim from the mastery statement. Do not try to teach the whole page in one sitting.
Test any Arabic audio. If a sound is outside your confidence, plan to listen together and seek correction from a capable teacher.
Remove distractions and decide when to stop: about 8–10 minutes for a younger child, 15–20 minutes for ages 8–11, or 20–30 minutes for an older learner.
Keep paper optional. If Qur’anic text is printed, follow the respect and waste guidance shown above the ayah panel.
Opening words: “We are going to learn one idea carefully and see exactly where it comes from. We can pause, replay and check the source whenever we need to.”
02Use a source-led teaching conversation
Connect: Ask what the learner already thinks the title means. Record the answer without immediately judging it.
Read or listen: Open the first evidence panel or cited report. Hear the complete Arabic before isolating one word or phrase.
Notice: Ask the learner to identify the exact words that support the first teaching point. A contextual word gloss is a clue; the complete named translation supplies the sentence meaning.
Explain: Read the teaching paragraph. Ask, “Which part came directly from the source, and which part is the writer helping us understand?”
Apply: Choose one practice task. Keep everyday examples within the boundary of the source; do not invent promises, hidden causes or rulings.
Retrieve: Close the explanation and ask the learner to state the idea, evidence locator and one careful application in their own words.

04Adapt the same truth for different ages
Ages 5–7
Teach one short source phrase and one meaning. Use text cards, colour bands, paths or simple geometric symbols—never a picture of اللّٰه(ALLAH) and never an image that implies His form. Let the child point, match, listen and repeat once or twice.
Ages 8–11
Use two or three evidence cards and ask the learner to match each idea to its locator. Invite a short explanation in their own words, then reopen the source to correct it together.
Ages 12–15
Compare the named English translations where provided. Ask what wording differs, what remains constant, and why a translation must not be called the Arabic Qur’an itself.
Ages 16+ and adults
Require a precise claim, an exact source locator and a stated boundary. Invite the learner to distinguish established meaning from inference and to mark any unresolved question for qualified review.
05Support Arabic without creating false confidence
Listen to the whole ayah or supplication first.
Follow the Arabic from right to left and use the word-level controls only after hearing the complete wording.
Treat transliteration as temporary scaffolding. It cannot reproduce every Arabic sound.
Let the learner echo a short unit, then return it to the full phrase so meaning and pronunciation remain connected.
If neither of you can hear or form a sound confidently, record it for a capable Qur’an or Arabic teacher. Do not manufacture an English substitute and call it exact.
Gentle correction: “Let us listen once more and notice where the sound begins,” protects both accuracy and confidence.
