Mary and Jesus occupy an honoured place in the Qur’an. Their story teaches purity, divine power, prophethood and submission. The same revelation that honours them also prevents their honour from becoming worship.
1. Let the Qur’an introduce Mary and Jesus
Some readers first encounter Islam through a claim that Muslims reject or dislike Jesus. The Qur’an itself corrects that impression. It names Mary, recounts the annunciation and miraculous birth, calls Jesus the Messiah and messenger, and records his speech as a servant of اللّٰه (ALLAH). A truthful lesson should let these affirmations appear before discussing disagreement.
Each gold Qur’an panel reproduces controlled Uthmani Arabic and places named English translations beside it. A translation communicates meaning but is not the Arabic Qur’an itself. The explanation first states what the verse says, then marks any educational inference. The linked hadith locators identify the collection and report so that a reader can inspect the wording and setting.
Respect and precision boundary: “Christian”, “Jewish” and “Muslim” identify large, internally diverse communities. This resource compares specific claims with the Qur’an; it does not assign one belief, motive or character to every person carrying a label. Ask a person how they understand their own belief, describe it fairly, and compare the claim rather than attacking their intelligence, ancestry or worth. Doctrinal clarity does not permit mockery, hostility, coercion or collective blame.
Names shared across traditions do not make the narratives identical. This page explains the Qur’anic account. It does not quote later Christian scripture to validate the Qur’an, nor does it claim every Christian reads the story in one way.
For adults teaching children: begin with what Muslims affirm: one Creator, honoured messengers, truthfulness and good manners. Use a two-column card headed “what this source actually says” and “what I still need to ask”. Do not invite a child to ridicule another pupil’s family, stage a confrontational debate or decide another person’s final standing before اللّٰه (ALLAH). Practise gentle sentences such as, “May I ask what you mean by that?”, “The Qur’an teaches…”, and, “I do not know enough to answer that fairly.”

Qur’an 3:42 records angels addressing Mary: اللّٰه (ALLAH) chose her, purified her and chose her above the women of the worlds. The repeated language of choosing gives her honour while locating the choice with her Lord.
Mary is not merely a background figure used to introduce someone else. The Qur’an names a surah after her and presents devotion, testing, vulnerability and vindication around her story. Learners should speak of her respectfully and avoid crude speculation about a matter the Qur’an treats with dignity.
The verse does not direct prayer to Mary. Being chosen by اللّٰه (ALLAH) is not becoming a share in divinity. The difference between recipient and Giver remains intact. This is a pattern throughout Islamic reverence: the more a servant is honoured, the more clearly their servanthood is protected.
For a younger learner, say: “Mary was a truthful, honoured woman chosen by اللّٰه (ALLAH). Muslims speak well of her. We do not draw her or invent how she looked. We learn from the words revealed about her.” This gives warmth without imaginative portraiture.

Qur’an 3:45 records angels giving Mary good news of a word from اللّٰه (ALLAH), whose name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near. Every title must be read within the Qur’an’s own explanation.
“A word from Him” does not mean Jesus is a portion of the Creator. Qur’an 4:171 calls him the word directed to Mary and also calls him a messenger. Qur’an 3:47 explains that اللّٰه (ALLAH) creates what He wills and decrees a matter by saying “Be.” The word belongs to divine command; the created servant is not the Creator.
“Messiah” is an honoured title in the Qur’an. The site should not fill the title with assumptions borrowed from another theology. It should state what the Qur’an states, compare translations and consult recognised tafsir when explaining further.
Mary is named and Jesus is identified through her—Jesus son of Mary. This truthful lineage protects the miraculous account. Muslims do not need to diminish Jesus to deny divine sonship; the Qur’an gives him remarkable honour while maintaining Tawheed.

Qur’an 3:47 records Mary asking how she could have a child when no man had touched her. The response is that اللّٰه (ALLAH) creates what He wills and, when He decrees a matter, says “Be” and it is. The explanation points to the Creator’s will and command.
A miracle is a sign, not a transfer of divinity. Adam’s creation without father or mother and Jesus’s creation without a father both display the unrestricted power of اللّٰه (ALLAH). The created form and timing differ; dependence upon the Creator does not.
Do not describe the birth in biological detail that revelation does not provide. Do not add fictional witnesses, dates or dialogue. “Miraculous birth without a human father” is enough. The purpose is to recognise the power and truthfulness of اللّٰه (ALLAH), not to make sacred history into entertainment.
If a learner asks how, distinguish possibility from mechanism. The verse answers the question of divine ability and decree. It does not give a laboratory mechanism. Faithfulness sometimes means explaining the stated meaning and refusing invented detail.

Qur’an 19:30 records Jesus saying that he is the servant of اللّٰه (ALLAH), that He gave him Scripture and made him a prophet. Servanthood comes first in the reported speech and prophethood identifies his office.
The verse gives Muslims a concise confession about Jesus: honoured, revealed-to, prophetic and serving the One God. It also refutes two errors at once—rejecting him and worshipping him. A Muslim neither calls him an impostor nor calls him the Creator.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3442 records the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) saying he is nearest to Jesus son of Mary and that no prophet came between them. Sahih al-Bukhari 3445 records him warning his followers not to exaggerate praise of him and directing them to call him the servant and Messenger of اللّٰه (ALLAH). Together the reports create affection without deification.
Every time this site mentions the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him), it uses the blessing supplied in the site convention. This is reverence. Yet even the final Messenger is never made an object of worship. The rule that protects Jesus also protects Muhammad and every righteous person.

Qur’an 5:75 says the Messiah son of Mary was a messenger preceded by messengers, describes his mother as truthful and notes that both ate food, then tells the reader to observe how the signs are made clear. Eating points to creaturely need within the verse’s argument.
The statement about food is not mockery. It is a concise sign of dependence. The Creator sustains and is not sustained; created servants receive food, strength and life. Speak the argument with dignity, especially when the person listening loves Jesus deeply.
Complete a five-part retrieval exercise: Mary was chosen and purified; Jesus was born miraculously; Jesus is Messiah and messenger; Jesus called himself servant of اللّٰه (ALLAH); neither Mary nor Jesus is worshipped. Attach a verse locator to each statement.
An adult teaching a child can ask, “Can someone be very special and still be a servant of اللّٰه (ALLAH)?” Use examples of honour without worship, then return to the revealed text. Avoid suggesting that prophets are merely ordinary; they are chosen human messengers.
Continue to Trinity, Sonship and Tawheed, or return to the course.
Read the sequence, not isolated titles: Mary is chosen by اللّٰه (ALLAH); she receives news of a child; she asks how; the answer points to divine creation; Jesus speaks as servant and prophet; and the Qur’an later reasons from the dependence of Mary and Jesus. This sequence allows wonder without confusion. The miraculous birth is fully affirmed, while the difference between the One who commands “Be” and the servant brought into existence by that command remains complete.
A common teaching error is to use only denial: “Jesus is not God.” The learner then hears little of what Islam positively believes. Replace the thin sentence with a full confession: Jesus son of Mary is the Messiah, an honoured messenger and prophet, born miraculously by the command of اللّٰه (ALLAH); he is a servant who called people to worship his Lord and theirs. Muslims await what authentic revelation teaches about him and refuse both rejection and worship of him. Every part needs its own evidence, and claims beyond the course should be checked before teaching.
If a child asks whether Muslims love Jesus, answer warmly: yes, Muslims believe in and honour Jesus because اللّٰه (ALLAH) named him among His messengers. Explain that love for a messenger is shown through truthful belief and obedience to the Creator, not through drawing an imagined portrait or giving the messenger worship. Ask the child to point to the verse that calls Jesus a servant and prophet, then let them explain the distinction in their own words.
Further practice: For independent study, compare how the named translations render “chosen”, “word”, “servant”, “prophet” and “messenger” in the displayed verses. Record the differences without declaring one English word to be the Arabic itself. If a translation note appears to add an explanation, distinguish the explanatory bracket from the translated wording. This prepares learners to read responsibly rather than building an argument on one isolated English phrase.
