Qur’an-First Comparative Questions Mastery Check

Test twelve careful distinctions about prophets, Jesus, Mary, Tawheed, earlier revelation and respectful dialogue using source-linked feedback.

Automatically marked100% pass standardProgress enabled
Interactive quiz100% required to pass

This mastery check tests whether you can preserve Qur’anic claims, distinguish honour from worship, and speak about another community without caricature. The 100% threshold protects source fidelity and human dignity.

1. Prepare for careful retrieval

Read all four lessons before beginning. Twelve questions include source identification, Arabic recognition, claim classification and conversation choices. Every question has feedback for every option. A reattempt is an invitation to revisit the evidence, not a verdict on the learner.

Each gold Qur’an panel reproduces controlled Uthmani Arabic and places named English translations beside it. A translation communicates meaning but is not the Arabic Qur’an itself. The explanation first states what the verse says, then marks any educational inference. The linked hadith locators identify the collection and report so that a reader can inspect the wording and setting.

Respect and precision boundary: “Christian”, “Jewish” and “Muslim” identify large, internally diverse communities. This resource compares specific claims with the Qur’an; it does not assign one belief, motive or character to every person carrying a label. Ask a person how they understand their own belief, describe it fairly, and compare the claim rather than attacking their intelligence, ancestry or worth. Doctrinal clarity does not permit mockery, hostility, coercion or collective blame.

Three questions display Arabic from verses already studied. You are not being asked to translate unseen Arabic. Match the displayed phrase to the specific teaching in its panel.

Primary · Saheeh International

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allāh and avoid ṭāghūt."1 And among them were those whom Allāh guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e., travel] through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

Compare · M. Pickthall

And verily We have raised in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Serve Allah and shun false gods. Then some of them (there were) whom Allah guided, and some of them (there were) upon whom error had just hold. Do but travel in the land and see the nature of the consequence for the deniers!

Compare · A. Yusuf Ali

For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth).

Qur’an 16:36 states that a messenger was raised in every community calling people to worship اللّٰه (ALLAH) and avoid false objects of worship. The correct answer will preserve both universality and exclusive worship.

Sahih al-Bukhari 3442 records closeness between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Peace and blessings be upon him) and Jesus and describes prophets as paternal brothers. It supports continuity without proving that every later doctrine is identical.

Watch for an option that turns common prophetic origin into “all current religious claims are equally true.” That conclusion does not follow.

Meaning in translation

Saheeh International is the primary reading. The two named comparisons make translation choices visible; none is presented as the Arabic Qur’an itself.

Primary · Saheeh International

O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allāh except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allāh and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allāh and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allāh is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.

Compare · M. Pickthall

O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" – Cease! (it is) better for you! – Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.

Compare · A. Yusuf Ali

O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Meaning in translation

Saheeh International is the primary reading. The two named comparisons make translation choices visible; none is presented as the Arabic Qur’an itself.

Primary · Saheeh International

And We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], the Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allāh has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allāh willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. To Allāh is your return all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

Compare · M. Pickthall

And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced-out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ.

Compare · A. Yusuf Ali

To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah; it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute;

Qur’an 5:48 presents the Qur’an as truth, confirmation and muhaymin over previous Scripture. The answer must keep the Qur’an as governing criterion while honouring original revelation.

Sahih al-Bukhari 4485 addresses reports recited and explained by People of the Scripture. The instruction not to affirm or deny applies where Islamic revelation has not settled the proposition. It does not neutralise a clear Qur’anic teaching.

A claim can be confirmed, contradicted or unconfirmed. The safest answer names which category is supported and does not invent certainty.

Meaning in translation

Saheeh International is the primary reading. The two named comparisons make translation choices visible; none is presented as the Arabic Qur’an itself.

Primary · Saheeh International

And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

Compare · M. Pickthall

And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender.

Compare · A. Yusuf Ali

And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

Open Qur’an 29:46 and the named translations on Quran.com

Qur’an 29:46 directs engagement with People of the Scripture in the best manner and affirms one God and submission. Courtesy and Tawheed therefore appear together.

The best response accurately restates what the other person said, explains the Qur’anic difference and leaves final judgement of persons to اللّٰه (ALLAH).

6. Use feedback as a study route

After submitting, open every explanation, including the ones you answered correctly. Record one distinction that felt easy to blur. Return to its verse panel and read all named translations.

A perfect score means you met this resource’s learning threshold. It does not qualify you as a scholar of comparative religion and does not give permission to confront or label another person.

Next use the conversation guide, or return to the course.

For adults teaching children: begin with what Muslims affirm: one Creator, honoured messengers, truthfulness and good manners. Use a two-column card headed “what this source actually says” and “what I still need to ask”. Do not invite a child to ridicule another pupil’s family, stage a confrontational debate or decide another person’s final standing before اللّٰه (ALLAH). Practise gentle sentences such as, “May I ask what you mean by that?”, “The Qur’an teaches…”, and, “I do not know enough to answer that fairly.”

Question-reading strategy: underline the subject of each question before looking at its options. Is it asking what a verse directly states, how a hadith is bounded, or which conversational response is wisest? A true sentence can still be the wrong answer if it does not answer the stated question. Remove options that add worship to a messenger, flatten every religion into sameness, judge a whole population or claim knowledge the source does not supply.

For Arabic recognition, locate the exact phrase within the gold panel. Read the transliteration aloud slowly if available, then connect the phrase to the whole verse. Do not guess from one familiar word. For example, the denial of begetting in Surah al-Ikhlas belongs with divine oneness, independence and incomparability; it is not a general criticism of human families.

For dialogue questions, test every option against two duties: is the doctrine conveyed truthfully, and is the person treated justly? An answer that hides Tawheed fails the first duty. An answer that mocks or misrepresents someone fails the second. The best answer can satisfy both because the Qur’an itself commands clear worship of one God and the best manner of engagement.

If your result is below 100%, use the feedback to create a correction card. On the front write the tempting wrong idea. On the back write the precise Qur’anic distinction and locator. Reattempt only after you can explain why the wrong option was attractive and why it fails. This turns a score into durable learning.

Complete one oral check before the reattempt. Explain why Muslims can honour Jesus while rejecting his divinity, why original revelation can be affirmed while the Qur’an remains criterion, and why respectful dialogue does not imply that contradictory claims are all true. Ask an adult or study partner to stop you whenever you move beyond the cited source. Then correct the sentence rather than defending it.

Finally, separate certainty levels aloud: “the verse states”, “the authentic report records”, “a named translation renders”, “a scholar explains”, and “I infer”. These phrases prevent several layers of knowledge from being presented as though all were the direct words of revelation.

Further practice: A final check asks whether you could correct the question itself if it were unfairly worded. Identify any option that assumes a whole community is uniform, any option that confuses a messenger with the Creator, and any option that turns an unsettled report into certainty. Naming the defect builds a skill that continues beyond this particular assessment.
